Welcome to my fitness log

I've created this to keep everything to do with my fitness journey in one place for easy reference.
I've listed links to places I visit regularly or places I think are interesting or valuable resources.

I started doing Crossfit September 22nd 2009 and I loved it - it's totally awesome and it made me a better person in so many different ways!

After nearly 4 years of Crossfit and wrist injury I tried a home fitness DVD for a change and something new - Rip 60 was really great and then I found Beachbody / Tony Horton's P90X!
It's THE best home fitness program ever!!!
It changed my body in so many amazing ways and got my cardio fitness, my core and overall strength including push up strength better than ever before!!

I now do many Beachbody programs as they are all so great.
I 'm a big Tony Horton fan because he makes me work hard but makes me laugh at the same time.
After I completed P90X, I did P90X3, P90X2 and some P90X+. I''ve tried other Beachbody programs including the P90, Piyo, Focus T25,
21 Day Fix Extreme, Country Heat, BodyBeast and Insanity, The Aslyum 1 and 2. Completed 21 Day Fix and 22 Min hard Core.

Did some Insanity Max 30 and Core de Force but my knees can't handle jumping every day so I have to mix them in.
Shift shop is great and looking forward to the new 80 Day obsession.

I'm the fittest I've ever been in my life and still getting stronger every day!

P90X3 Incinerator

X3 Incinerator

Enjoyed this more today  I think my work got to me yesterday, but got it sorted today thank goodness.

Upped my weights on floor flys to 10lb but will go for 12.5lb next time, up to 7.5lb on pterodactyl flys and will go for 10lb next time, 12.5lb for popeye hammer curls will keep them the same but up the kneeler curls next and Hail to the chief (lying tricep extension) up to 4kg this time but will go 5kg next time.

10 Standard push ups were better quality i.e. shallow ones came later, and managed 8 military today with no knees but shallow towards the end (these are nomally strong for me but not in this workout).
Did 10 assisted pull ups and 10 assist chin ups today - noticeable strength improvements noticed here too

Everything overall felt much better, more stable and stronger I even managed 10 flippers this time around compared to only 6 last time - it's a really odd movements on your elbows with your butt in the air?

I did better in the burnout, I had to only take a couple of 1-2 secs breathers instead missing a section so great progress throughout

P90X3 Eccentric Lower

X3 Eccentric Lower

For some reason I didn't enjoy this as much as normal but I'm not sure why? A tough working day and I just didn't shake it off like normal!

I upped my weights for squats, Sumo, front kick, Adductor Lunge and cross reach so I guess I should be pleased with that but I just wasn't feeling it today

P90X3 Yoga

X3 Yoga

Really enjoyed this today, my left foot was hurting a little today but other than that great workout.
Noticeable improvements all round too except Half moon and Crane/Crow Still on 1-2 secs for Crane and Half moon is still tricky for me for some reason but everything else felt much better and stronger today.

I even managed to get my head on my knee during the hamstring stretches - both knees this time not just the right leg  so super impressed with the increase in flexibility!

Airplane was better today, got my head a little longer and my balance was much better.

Last two nights been working out in front of the open fire and boy does that put the temperate up phew but hey it all helps to burn the calories right lol

P90X3 Triometrics

Cold start followed by Triometrics

This one really does creep up on you - I can nearly palm the floor in sumo squats so a little more progress there. The warrior 3 squats are real glute and thigh burners and those variations of squats near the end are really tough! Muscles cramping and more oxygen needed tonight

Really looking forward to Yoga tomorrow!

Slight aside - my body is really changing for the better i.e. my muscles are firming and less squidgy fat covering everything up. This P90X3 thing is pretty amazing considering the 30 min workouts  My body is really starting to look how I want it too, not only am I fitter and stronger but I'm starting to look it now too

P90X3 Block 2 Week 6 Day 1 Eccentric Upper

P90X3 Block 2 Week 6 Day 1 Eccentric Upper

Considering yesterday was rest day my upper body was still feeling it from MMX I soon realised when I started tonight

But I still improved in some areas -I upped the Military press and flip flop combo to 12.5lb/5.6kg from 10lb/4.5kg, I managed 5 of the 10 military push ups instead of 3 before dropping to my knees, got an extra assisted chin up this time, managed all 10 full fly push ups even though some were shallow, and somehow managed all my staggered push ups full this time too(including 5 extra because I forgot to change stance).
Last time because I was wary of my shoulder I did the skyfers with both feet down, I did them correctly with one foot up this time

So although started feeling pretty shattered I made some good progress

P90X3 Cold Start then MMX

X3 Cold Start then MMX

Been really looking forward to this (as I really loved Kenpo X but by the end of P90X I wanted/needed more) and boy there are some combo's in there to get your head around  ! So Tony did not disappoint at all!

I meant to watch it through earlier in the day before doing it but didn't get chance so some of the moves I had to watch a few reps to get the combinations right but overall loved it! It will be so much better next week.

I put my HRM on just to see and my Heart rate got up to 178 = 96% Max phew!! Can't remember getting it up that high before lol. Most of my workouts get up to 169-171.

This week 5 has been really good, a nice mix of weights and cardio so I'm looking forward to doing it all again next week, with more weight, more reps and more umph

P90X3 Incinerator

X3 Incinerator

I went light-ish with this one as I was unsure how this was going to pan out as you work the same muscle group twice - do one exercise i.e. Rocket launcher Row for 10 reps then straight into chin ups for 30 secs!

And OMG Monkey Pump - that is a combo move and a half! Tony said to go light as he'd worked his way up to 15lb so I went with just 2 x 5lb and still struggled! I had a to take a mid set break because I could hardly hold my arms up but managed to finish the set phew!

Really enjoyed it though, mostly upper body which was great after all lower yesterday. Will increase some of my weights next time.

The crazy burnout stuff at the end really burned me out this time  I missed a few of the sphinx bits in the middle and then jumped back in - look forward to keeping up next time.

P90X3 Eccentric Lower

X3 Eccentric Lower

Pulled this in today rather than delay it as it was a crazy day, as also went light on the weights as I want to be able to walk tomorrow (I remember first leg day from P90X too well!).

Funnily enough this is very similar to Eccentric Upper only all lower body lol Still 10 reps of everything, 3 counts eccentric, 1 count concentric. Weighted squats, lunges, Sumo's, pistols, kicks  and some a bunch of new weird moves  but it was still fun.

I was little rushed towards the end because at 18 mins to go I was called to give someone a lift to garage to collect their car before they closed. Thank goodness I did go light on the weight otherwise driving that soon would have been probably not advisable lol
And driving still dripping with sweat is really not nice!!! But needs must when the devil drives and all that!

Will up most of the weights on this for next time.

P90X3 Yoga

X3 Yoga

Ahh nice bit of yoga which I really needed after the very trying day I've had.

I even managed a little longer with both feet off the floor for Crane

P90X3 Triometrics

X3 Triometrics

Phew!!!! is all I can say to that!!

This one is tough in a really hidden way

You do a move for 20 secs thinking ok this is easy, then you do it for another 20 secs with something added to make it harder, hmmm this is a little harder, then you do it for another 20 seconds but Tony makes it harder still OMG

For example Warrior 3 on right leg, arms back and squat for 20 seconds, then arms out to the side and squat for 20 seconds remembering to keep your back legs as high as you can and then arms overhead and continue squatting for another 20 secs.....if you can lol - sounds easy but it's not!!!

This one is real leg burner, legs, legs and more legs - I was pretty trashed by the end and my legs were screaming, my legs haven't cramped like that before that I can remember wowy!

More pre-bed protein and ZMA for me tonight as although I'm have a little soreness from yesterday it's totally cope-able with and tons better than I expected  thank goodness.

P90X3 Week 5 Block 2 Eccenctric Upper

X3 Week 5 Block 2

Eccentric Upper

I was unsure about weights for this one but I got it somewhere near I think.

Is was great to get back to lifting some iron but this one surprised me by how much sweating I did for a weights workout

No new moves really - just knew names lol.
Mixture of Push ups, pull ups and normal weight lifting upper body moves but the main thing is that the down (the eccentric) movement is for the count of 3 on every move i.e. for pull ups....pull up and chin over, then lower yourself down for the count of 3 and repeat 10 times!
We do 20 different movements too.

I tried to do any many full push ups as I good getting shallower as I got more tired. But eventually I had to drop to knees before I face planted. The slow counts really do you in!
I didn't manage all the pull variations either - not a real shocker I know but still.
I did manage all the Dumbell moves, some only just, hence I got the weights right but something tells me I've got some hellish DOMS coming tomorrow? I hope not as I've took a little pre-bed protein to help recovery and I might try some ZMA too!

It's the new Triometrics tomorrow - can't wait

Enjoyed this as usual today, looking forward to resting tomorrow and then start Block 2 with 5 new workouts

P90X3 Cold Start followed by CVX

X3 Cold Start followed by CVX

I really enjoy this workout lol

I was wary with the weight as my shoulders still felt a little tired but after cold start I was ready and my shoulders felt great, but I didn't want to be stupid.

I used 2kg DB on the first round and 2.5kg plate on the 2nd round up until 14 mins to go then I planned to swop over and do the slower stuff with the 2.5kg and drop to the 2kg for the faster stuff but it didn't quite go to plan. Some I kept the 2.5kg as I was feeling good and 2kg would have been too light and other stuff the 2.5kg was too heavy!

But I really noticed a great improvement in my stamina during the traveling tire twists I think they are called - the running with the weight part - as I kept a great pace up all the way through. Usually I start flagging and slow right down but today I sailed through the first round and kept up on the 2nd so really chuffed about that

I dropped the weight for a bit more speed in the burnout round for all but the globe squatters just to get the burn at the end lol

P90X3 Pilates

X3 Pilates

I don't really know what I think of this - overall it was kind of OK!

It's weird trying to concentrate on the breathing and the moves - which is kinda the point I know but still.
My main problem was my shoulders - my shoulders seem to have taken a beating this week and so they were complaining in the sphinx and side arm balance type moves which made it really tough.

I'm sure next time we do it it will be much better, and I can see it has potential but this one is ' ask me again next time' lol

P90X3 Accelerator

X3 Accelerator

Well this fun but tough - as most of these are first time round lol

I had to watch the first rep or two to know what I was doing and then get stuck in but there is a lot of plank stuff in here!
Swimmers planks OMG  = plank position and then swim front crawl with right arm while at the same time lift the left leg, and now swop sides!
The plank/sphinx combo (changing sphinx and plank position with a leg raise  ) was tough too and the Donkey kicks at the end - where did he dream those up from! Tony demos these on one of videos - crouch down, hands on the floor, kick your feets out and back in but land on one leg and kick your other leg through the gap made by your hand and foot  total craziness !!!

But somehow I still enjoyed it and even though I couldn't keep up for most of it I was one sweaty mess by the end

P90X3 Dynamix

Well I've had a rough few days of some emotional stuff going on and poor eating but I'm fully recovered and back in the saddle today.

X3 Dynamix

I actually enjoyed this today - eased myself back into it - it went much better than the first time I tried it. The side plank is still tough with the the heel up but hey its getting better.

I actually feel stronger again so although I've been rough with about 4 hours sleep, 17 hours with no food fri/sat due to IBS issues, followed by 3 meals and nearly 11 hours sleep Sat/Sun catching up. Normal day yesterday and I think my body actually recovered from the training at the time lol

Here's looking forward to X3 Accelerator tomorrow - which looks alike more of crazy Tony fun

P90X3 Cold Start followed by Isometrix

So X3 Week 4 Transition week ( I think they chose this name instead of rest week because something tells me Rest week it's not - it's just difference to the last 3 weeks )

Cold start (just because I like to be warmed up) followed by Isometrix

Well I'm not quite sure where to start with this! Half of it was crazy hard as in I couldn't do it for even half the time and the other half was pretty easy for me

It really showed up my weaknesses - I thought my upper body lacked strength but wow this really shows it up in great neon flashing lights

There's a upper body balance move on the floor move followed by a leg balance move - i.e. get into plank position and lift 1 arm up and stay there for 45 secs  now standing leg extension and yeah stay there for 45 secs (this wasn't so bad as we did some of these in P90X) - now repeat on the other sides!

Now get into plank and raise the arm like before and now raise the opposite leg  and stay there for 45 secs  etc etc.
Another was single arm sphinx ..for 45 secs! - Side arm balance for 45 secs (this was my best upper body one I lasted about 25-30 secs I think)c etc.

I won't list them all but basically most of the stuff that involved my upper body I just could not do for 45 seconds

Later on you do Warrior 3 - I could do that for 45 secs:) , and we did Tree for 45 secs - I can do that even Ted's version looking up  that was a walk in the park for me for some reason! But we have had lots of practice from X yoga so not really a surprise

Looking forward to mastering all the hard stuff in this workout

We did crane/crow at the end for a few secs and then that was it done! Now crane has always been one of those I've kind of played at knowing I couldn't really do it but I tried for a few minutes after the workout was done and OMG I actually got my toes of the floor for about a sec or so.
Seems silly to celebrate a second but I was really amazed how I am beginning to feel like I can, with more practice and strength, actually manage crane. All that balance work had done something for me already and I felt more solid in the position so wahoo! progress is still progress

P90X3 Cold start followed by The Warrior

X3 Cold start followed by The Warrior

This is a tough finish to end of Block 1 - I can't believe I've done 3 weeks of X3 already

Enjoyed it as usual but this one pushes me because of the all the burpees and sprawls

The elevator push ups I lasted longer before face planting this time  and the abrinome I made it all the way through so more progress yay!

Transistion week coming up and like Jonathan - Isometrix scares me  45 seconds of holding a position is gonna hurt

P90X3 Cold start followed by CVX

X3 Cold start followed by CVX

I started this with 2.5kg plate tonight as its easier to hold that my 2kg spin lock dumbbell but I dropped to the 2kg for the faster rounds.

Pleased with increase in weight even though it's only 0.5kg more than last week  every little helps and all that lol.

I really pushed towards the end too so overall really chuffed with this tonight
