Welcome to my fitness log

I've created this to keep everything to do with my fitness journey in one place for easy reference.
I've listed links to places I visit regularly or places I think are interesting or valuable resources.

I started doing Crossfit September 22nd 2009 and I loved it - it's totally awesome and it made me a better person in so many different ways!

After nearly 4 years of Crossfit and wrist injury I tried a home fitness DVD for a change and something new - Rip 60 was really great and then I found Beachbody / Tony Horton's P90X!
It's THE best home fitness program ever!!!
It changed my body in so many amazing ways and got my cardio fitness, my core and overall strength including push up strength better than ever before!!

I now do many Beachbody programs as they are all so great.
I 'm a big Tony Horton fan because he makes me work hard but makes me laugh at the same time.
After I completed P90X, I did P90X3, P90X2 and some P90X+. I''ve tried other Beachbody programs including the P90, Piyo, Focus T25,
21 Day Fix Extreme, Country Heat, BodyBeast and Insanity, The Aslyum 1 and 2. Completed 21 Day Fix and 22 Min hard Core.

Did some Insanity Max 30 and Core de Force but my knees can't handle jumping every day so I have to mix them in.
Shift shop is great and looking forward to the new 80 Day obsession.

I'm the fittest I've ever been in my life and still getting stronger every day!

T25 Cardio and rest

Yesterday (forgot to post  ) was T25 Cardio

I rearranged my room round and although wasn't feeling full of beans I pushed play and got it done but I struggled a little with the lunge parts - my legs were screaming
I thought I might after 2 leg heavy days and I wasn't wrong but I pushed through.

My room still isn't right so hopefully 3rd time lucky.

So rest day for me today - wasn't planned that way but I had to push through to get it done last night and today I'm feeling a little shattered, some twingey pains at the top of my glutes and a little awareness in my ankle. Had a long workday too so decided to be sensible and rest.

Which as I figured and now proved to myself that too much T25 in one week isn't good for me especially on top of learning new piyo ( more taxing than I thought) moves

I'm still trying to get back to doing 6 days a week which I haven't managed in the last 4 weeks. I think I need to schedule in a stretch day with maybe some weights so at least I'm still active and doing something instead of just being sat on my rear! Maybe 5 days a week is my sweat spot I'm not sure? I'm hoping it's just from the 3 very leg focused days! (That's the trouble with programming for yourself grrr)

On another note Black friday today - anybody snapped up the deals????
I've spent so much money saving money lol!!!

But I bought Turbo Fire and Insanity -The Asylum today

Insanity -The Asylum - One of your favourites isn't it Michael????

I'm sure I'm not ready for it yet but I couldn't resist after everyone says such great things about it

Piyo Sweat

Piyo Sweat

Woweeee what a workout!

Starts nice and easy and then ramps up till I was sweating buckets

I maybe didn't use enough upper body in the crouching push ups, which I find quite an odd movements but I'll keep practising. I did all the tricep push ups on my knees as I knew there was lots and didn't want to burn out too early and I'm glad I did because I just managed the last few. The wide push ups I did as many as possible on my feet then dropped to knees when I was toast.

The pace was quite swift and I only just managed to keep up, but its to be expected first time through with lots of new moves

Also not quite enough room in my workout room so I will re-arrange that asap to make it easier

When I've got through this Piyo I'm know gonna feel so much more flexible, stronger and powerful it's a little scary lol = Loving it already!!!

T25 Lower Focus

T25 Lower Focus

Feel the burn!!!

Great workout and I'm getting better so dropped to a knee once on first side of lunge section and twice on the right. Overall much better than last time and I nailed it

Piyo Define Upper Body

Piyo Define Upper Body

This is the next one on the calendar but it strangely carries on from lower - which was yesterday on the calendar....so no warm up

Very strange I feel, if they are meant to be done as a double then she should say so tut tut Chalean and the beachbody crew!

Anyway I skipped back to the warm up for Lower which is a nice little 2 minute warm up and then carried on with upper.
Good 20 min workout, fairly gentle but with quite a few tricep push ups in
Some plank work, side arm planks, core work with bikes and rolls into boat (in TH''s language) and some beast into kick throughs (I did these with TH after the donkey kicks in X3 can't remember what he calls them). New to me was the crouching crow push ups!
So got a nice little sweat on and quite enjoyed it, thanks to TH's stuff nothing too challenging for me.

I will definitely be combining the two 20 mins define workouts into one and it should flow much better.

Bodybeast Build Backs & Bi's

After reviewing all the P90 dvds today for your info... Sculpt B does have some weight instead of band options which is a good thing. In the B's and C's Tony is also is normal self which makes me happier
He obviously struggled with that Sculpt A for some reason but got his mojo back for the other workouts.
Overall I feel that most of the workouts will make a good addition to my Library and being a loyal TH fan I have decided to keep it to complete my collection and use them when I feel like a change or want a short total body workout with Tony.

Today I have spent a good few hours trying to decide my workout calendar for the coming weeks and I’ve decided on alternating Piyo & T25 through the week and BodyBeast Back and Bi’s on Sat’s (may sub in Pump Revolution if I feel like it) I feel this allows me to not loose strength in gained areas (chin ups/pulls ups & deadlift) and work on new areas (increase cardio fitness, core strength, flexibility and bodyweight movements) - Sound like a good plan??

Bodybeast Build Backs & Bi's

With more room and using stab/ ball instead of bench I really enjoyed this BBeast today

I kept most of my weights the same as when I did last time (July) and so I may know to it tomorrow but I really enjoyed it, made a great change to push hard and lift some weight. My Bi's were pumped and screaming  and I could easily go heavier on the other stuff next time.

Really looking forward to getting more T25 under my belt (getting alpha done and trying beta) and looking forward to the challenge of Piyo

Piyo Define Lower body & P90 Sculpt A

Piyo Define Lower body & P90 Sculpt A

So while watching the P90 Sweat A Dvd the other day before we did it at the end there was a trailer for Piyo and I said to my mum I've been debating on this for a while and I'm not sure..." I like the look of that!" and that was that I ordered it

So we watched the fundamentals earlier and she liked it. I liked it too and was wondering about the pace of the actual workouts so my mum wasn't quite ready to do Sculpt yet so I decided at 20 mins I'd have a bash at Define Lower body.

It's really good, Chalene is a much better trainer than I first thought. I was 8 mins from the end and my mum was ready  so I duly stopped and we did Sculpt A.

It went pretty well although she's stopped when her back started hurting her again. We finished up and she went to stretch and I finished up the 8 mins of Piyo. It was pretty good, no cool down at the end but I like the pace and moves work well. I think I'm going to really enjoy Piyo

Me and mum were sat talking tonight as she's put a slight strain in per lower back and funnily enough I also am aware of my lower back, just as I was after Sculpt on Monday  She's decided it's not for her, she doesn't like the band and the weights and wants to try Piyo.
She's pleased with her progress as she feels slimmer already but doesn't want to get injured.

I too am surprised at the lower back awareness considering all the Tony stuff I've done and I have to say it has to be the bands. He puts us in the sawyer stance for the band tricep kick backs and I think that's what is doing it. I've never done much with bands and I've never been a fan but I know for sure that I'm not now!!

I'll review the rest for P90 DVDs over the weekend and if I'm not impressed I think I will send it back (never sent one back before - is it easy??). If some are good, like the cardio ones, and ab rippers I may keep it to use when I want a tony day but shorter than usual but we will see.

I have to be honest and say for beginners and the 'On switch to fitness' some of the positions are hard for unfit, inflexible people to get into and they ask alot of you straight away. So I'm pretty disappointed and wouldn't recommended it for newbies

We also decided the room we are working in just isn't big enough for the both of us so no more working out together. She will workout in there on her own, which will be good for her but just not with me at the same time. Which is actually better for me as trying to schedule around the days she wanted to do was getting crazy for me!!

So I'm back to my own schedule again (thank goodness) but now I need to decide what I'm doing lol I've been skipping more and more yoga days so I'm thinking def. need to add in Piyo on those days at least and see what happens

P90 Sweat A + Ab Ripper A

P90 Sweat A + Ab Ripper A

This was pretty good tonight, nice into dvd but still got me a good sweat on and that was with some slow bits to help cue my mum through it ;)

Some new moves in Ab Ripper considering how many of Tonys AB Rippers I've done, I don't know where he keeps coming up with the new ideas from. As usual most of are pretty tough and a couple of them were a breeze for me which was nice.

Good stuff from P90 so far - interesting to see the Saturday Special.

T25 Alpha Speed 1.0

T25 Alpha Speed 1.0

Slow to get started after my old Mac dvd player failed grrrrrr, it played P90 fine yesterday and today but wouldn't have the T25 disc at all. Tried macbook same thing, made lots of noise but wouldn't play it.
Found a very old external dvd player and hey presto I'm off!

I reckon I nailed it tonight too, missed only a few reps here an there watching the move and then tried to keep up as much as I could, def. my best yet

Old dvd player then wouldn't eject the dvd as the eject button had failed a long time ago I was then informed

Decided I'd chase it with some LM Pump flow, tried the mac drive again but nope def. dead! So swopped into the old external and the app crashed, the sound was jittery and it was stopping and starting - really annoyed me as I had wasted 20 minutes truing to get it too work that I had cooled down a lot and time was cracking on so did a few stretches while the disc started working in the mac book and thought stuff it I'm done!

So onto Amazon to buy a new external drive for me!!!

P90 Sculpt A

P90 Sculpt A

So I tried the new P90 Sculpt A today and it was a pretty good workout. But for my mum it was too heavy on the leg work and to be honest for the 'On switch to fitness' it was pretty intense with so many iso holds!

Really surprised me for most of the moves he has you squat and hold, pull and hold or push and hold. I went with weights that I thought I could get the 16 reps out of (which also is a lot of reps for those starting out) and with the addition of all the holds I knew to it and the weights got heavy real quick.

I tried the beachbody red band for the pull ups and chin ups and that was pretty new to me and again with the 'hold' I got a pretty good workout.

Interesting stuff - I think a whole body blast on day 1 is pretty hard for most newcomers but that's just me. I quite enjoyed it and for me who likes variety I think this Sculpt A 3 times a week would get boring real quick but maybe that what some people need?

It went a little fast for my mum too but we soldiered on and got it done. Her quads just above her knees hurt her more than anything for the leg work/holds so hopefully it won't put her off too much.

LM Pump and Shred

LM Pump and Shred

After a hard days work I finished it with Pump and Shred.

I got my weights sorted better this time and apart from a few reps here and there I got through it all

Went with 2 x 3kg for squats, 7kg for chest but layer on step to better range of motion, upto 12kg for Deads,Row and C&Press's, 2 x 2kg for the lunges   and 2 x 1kg for shoulders.

I really struggled with the 16 push ups tonight but I'm not really surprised after yesterday.

So overall pleased with progress. This workout def. seems to hit the fat burning really well

Now I have my room sorted I'm contemplating having another bash at beast?

X3 Incinerator followed by LM Pump Flow

X3 Incinerator followed by LM Pump Flow

I really feel like I'm loosing some top end strength over the last few weeks so need to throw in some different workouts to get my strength back so I decided Incinerator was the one today.

I struggled to hit all of reps/weights as I did last time I did it but got most of them just

I did feel my core was stronger as I got further through the burnout section before dropping to my knees so pleased with that

My chin up and pull ups are not as easy with the doorway bar but its better than nothing.

I'm planning to do P90 3 non consecutive days a week with my mum to see if I can get her into it and try and fit my other workouts in and around it. Which if you don't want to work the same muscle group two days running is a little tricky but we will see how it goes.

Sorted out my workout space to give me more room

No Beacbody workout for me today but I spent 3 hours disassembling my power rack and carting the bits downstairs and into the garage, to make more room and give me a much better workout space.

I worked really hard and I'm really pleased with the space I've created.
It means I haven't got a fixed pull up bar any longer which is a real shame but it means I can do all my workouts in that one room now, instead weights upstairs and cardio/more room needed ones downstairs in front of the tv.

T25 Total Body Circuit and LM Pump Flow

Wahoo!! My new P90 Arrived today

T25 Total Body Circuit and LM Pump Flow

Phew...Shaun T kicked my booty yet again tonight but I pushed hard and I'm making progress, slow but progress none the less.

My body is looking leaner but I feel like I'm loosing strength so slight change of plan needed I think! Need to bring a little more strength work into the mix

Combat 45 and Inner Warrior Stretch

Les Mills Pump and Shred

Pump and Shred

Well for me this one is completely different to the others so far as in - it's tough and it makes me sweat and work hard

Enjoyed this, first squat section was good, just about got through it with 7kg on my back.

Chest was a touch easier than the section in P'n'Burn with the same 7kg, but I struggled with the 16 push ups chaser - I did them but took a few breaks.

Dead/Row/Clean & press section I kept the same at 10kg thinking longer section would be harder but I should have upped it. There was more clean and press in this one which was great but def go for 12kg or maybe even 14kg next time.

I struggled to complete all the second leg section even after dropping from 2 x 3kg DB's to no weights. My legs were shaking as soon I started the lunges

Shoulders section in this one thats not in the other so that was good, but I struggled with the starter of push ups and then I used 2 x 2kg DB's for the main shoulder bits and it was a mistake as I had to drop to 2 x 1kg and still only just made it through with missed reps and very very shaky arms in the overhead press section at the end.

Abs section was tougher too, I did all the hover section on my knees ok but then the crunch section had me hugging my knees in pain

Overall a good total body thrashing and it was fun

P90X3 Yoga

Just a little X3 Yoga for me, wasn't feeling great all day but gradually felt better enough do something so 30 mins yoga was better than nothing
