Welcome to my fitness log

I've created this to keep everything to do with my fitness journey in one place for easy reference.
I've listed links to places I visit regularly or places I think are interesting or valuable resources.

I started doing Crossfit September 22nd 2009 and I loved it - it's totally awesome and it made me a better person in so many different ways!

After nearly 4 years of Crossfit and wrist injury I tried a home fitness DVD for a change and something new - Rip 60 was really great and then I found Beachbody / Tony Horton's P90X!
It's THE best home fitness program ever!!!
It changed my body in so many amazing ways and got my cardio fitness, my core and overall strength including push up strength better than ever before!!

I now do many Beachbody programs as they are all so great.
I 'm a big Tony Horton fan because he makes me work hard but makes me laugh at the same time.
After I completed P90X, I did P90X3, P90X2 and some P90X+. I''ve tried other Beachbody programs including the P90, Piyo, Focus T25,
21 Day Fix Extreme, Country Heat, BodyBeast and Insanity, The Aslyum 1 and 2. Completed 21 Day Fix and 22 Min hard Core.

Did some Insanity Max 30 and Core de Force but my knees can't handle jumping every day so I have to mix them in.
Shift shop is great and looking forward to the new 80 Day obsession.

I'm the fittest I've ever been in my life and still getting stronger every day!

Shift Shop Wk3 D6 (My Cal Mods) Strength 45

Enjoyed this today until I became aware of my back again grrrr so some slight modifications just to limit the twisting motions eg the Sumo Chop in the 2nd and 3rd round I just did straight Sumo with Bicep Curl and took out the left and right twist.

I was extra cautious in round 3 with everything just being careful with form as its always easy to loose form when you are trying to go faster because Chris is shouting at you lol

I also did no Plyo Lunges (or rather Pulsing Lunge Hops) either today to protect my knee.

And I'm done! It's been a great 3 weeks of Shift Shop and can and see and feel differences in my body for sure. I will take a few much needed recovery days to further rest my back and the rest of me too then weigh and measure to see ;)

Shift Shop Wk3 D5 (My Cal Mods) Speed 45 and Shift Core

Loved this one today and pushed as hard as I could as it the last time doing it in this 3 Weeks.

I should have skipped the Downing burpee completely as I've tweaked my back so I've been resting it for the last few hours. Hopefully should be ok for tomorrow's Strength 45.

I went straight into Shift Core which felt pretty good although I was a little tired.

Happy Sunday everyone.

Shift Shop Wk3 D4 (My Cal Mods) Strength 35 & Strength 25

After not liking Super Strength 50 that much I tried my own version of a double....
I went with Strength 35 as a nice light warm up round 1, medium weight work harder round 2 then chased it with Strength 25 and because I was nice and ready and they are simpler movements I went as heavy as I could for an all out finisher.

I also got some personal bests today too....1st was with the plank walks in Strength 25 - when I first tried these in Week 1 I had to take breaks, go to my knees or use Power stands as my shoulders just wouldn't hold up but today I did it! Considering I'd already completed Strength 35 I didn't think I could but I push and held on and I managed it for the full minute on my hands. I'm super pleased with that 😊 The 2nd was all Sumo Squats with the holds that I couldn't stay in before and today I did yay!

Loved the combo and the progress I've made over the last 3 weeks.

Shift Shop Wk3 D3 (My Cal Mods) P90X3 MMX and Shift Core

Needed a little less impact cardio to rest my knee today so MMX was a good choice for me especially as its a bit of a stress buster and I needed that too 😊

Chased it with Shift Core and felt a little stronger and my swimmers were much better.

My HR monitor app is messing me about so no graph today grrrr

Shift Shop Wk3 D2 (My Cal Mods) Strength 45

I love this one! 😃 I got my weights right increasing each round on most of the moves. Really enjoyed this, pushed hard and felt done when I was done!

Although I've a little pain in my knee when going down the stairs now so all those jumping lunges were probably not the best idea after Speed 50 yesterday 😧

All of the Shift Shop workouts I can def say that Speed 45 and Strength 45 are my favourites.

Shift Shop Wk3 D1 (My Cal Mods) Super Speed 50

Lacking sleep and can't believe how many different things I've had to clean up in the last 24 hours....dogs...who'd have 'em 😩

Used only light 2kg and 3kg db's for weights except for sandbag on Fireman as it was easier. I was pushed for time so had to keep skipping some the Chris talk but got it done.

My push ups felt a little stronger today and I really enjoyed some of the combo's.
Nice workout but the breaks can seem a little too long in this one as you get a water break followed by another showing of the moves and I'm kinda 'well come on then I got it' but I think its more because I was against the clock.

Shift Shop Mobilty

Lacking sleep and its rest day anyway so just Mobility for me today and it felt good.

Shift Shop Super Strength 50

Erm not sure what to make of this one - it was kind of alright and not alright at the same time.

Although if I'm honest some of that maybe to do with me. I'm a little stressed and having to watch new pup at the same time and I think I went too light with weights in the first round didn't help either.

I used dumbells and my Sandbag and I think it was just a little messy for me.

There is a lot of twisty core stuff in this one, and the second wrestler move I had a slight pain in my lower back so I was cautious after that.

I'll know my weights for next time and maybe it will be better. But the jury's out for me on this one.

Shift Shop Speed 45 & Shift Core

OMG I loved this one!!!!

Lacking a little sleep as yesterday we bought home the newest member of the family - a 9 month old Cocker Spaniel Pup who was left outside all the time and had very little company.

After an emotional and stressful few days I needed the stress release and boy this workout did that for me today. Lots of different but same'ish moves that really got you moving. I was short on space in the living room today so modified as I needed to, had a couple of interruptions with the pups but I gave it my all - Phew!!!!
Nice burn too - I did 505 in 52 mins (with the interruptions)

Chased it with Shift Core as I didnt have time to do it yesterday and I'm definitely getting better at it ;)

Unless Speed 50 surpasses it this one of my new favorite cardio routines!

Shift Shop Strength 45

Wow this was a great one today - didn't quite get my weight selections right for some of the moves but really enjoyed it. The 3rd round is very Asylum Strength'ish and I loved it.

I really didn't expect the surprise at the end so nice one Chris!!! (I don't want to spoil it for those that haven't done it yet).

Looking forward to doing this one again and getting the weights right as it will be so much better.

Combat 45

I haven't done this workout in just over 2 years! It was great to do a bit of punching and kicking for a change ;) I wanted to do CdF but didn't want the cardio spikes for me knees, I wanted to do MMX but didn't want the plank work for my shoulders so Combat was the chosen one.

No plank work and no jumping for my achey parts meant I didnt get my heart rate crazy high and burn a ton but I got moving and rested what I needed to so I think that's a win.

I'm going to do Strength 45 tomorrow and I'm soooo looking forward to it.

Shift Shop Wk 2 D2 Strength 35

I really enjoyed this one but it was over way to fast!
I increased the weight for the rows in the second round as the first round was just way too light. I used the power stands for Hungry Bear in the first and just did it on my knees in the seconds as it was the glutes and obliques that was the target after all.

I thought this one had more shoulder work, which many workouts miss out on, so definitely one for the library 😉

I'm very aware of my knees from all the jumping about so I think although I wanted to stick to the calendar and do this in full, I think I may have to adjust it as it's not worth getting injured over.

I may jump to the longer workouts and only do two Speed ones a week and replace it with one with less impact instead. It's frustrating but we all have to work within our limitations don't we?

Shift Shop Wk 2 Day 1 Speed 35

This was good fun today and another quad burner especially the baby hops.

I did get a little dizzy going round the circle in the Lateral Slides - I think I may go left to right next time. The circle does give some variation but in a small space its not the easiest thing to achieve well.

I used the power stands to modify (for my shoulder) floor work in first round and didn't in the shorter second rounds except for the Spider Climber at the end.

Overall good workout and nice ramp up from week 1 ;)

Shift Shop Wk 1 Day 7 Mobility

Just Mobility today and it was pretty good - some new stretches in there and overall I enjoyed it. My body didn't want any more today.

Monday, 17 July 2017

Shift Shop Wk 1 D6 Strength 25 and Shift Core

I nearly moved on to Speed 35 today but decided to stick to the schedule with Mona.

Increased some weights and decreased others as I was using KGs instead of Lbs.
Used power stands again for floor work where I could.
In the Renegade Rows my plank felt stronger than last time so that was good.

Shift Core - I noticed significant improvements on almost every move so that was really surprising and exciting.

I won't lie my muscles feel a little tired today so I am looking forward to just Shift Mobility tomorrow before the start of Week 2 and the 35 mins workouts on Wednesday.

I'm never sure where to pitch my weights for these types of workouts - I always want to go as heavy as I can but that can slow things down and I feel then I can't keep up with them onscreen. Should we aim to go as heavy as poss or should we go lighter to keep up with them - is less weight more reps better??

Shift Shop Wk 1 D5 Speed 25

I modified today by using TH Power Stands for all floor work and I felt it took some of the pressure of my shoulders and allowed me to push harder on the cardio side.

I did take a different pre workout which may have helped but I pushed hard on this last Speed 25 of the first week, everywhere I could, and gave it my best.

I managed 17 Burpees and I think it was 35 lateral slides. Curious to see how many I can do at the end of the program. I did have to take 1 break in the Catchers Crawl and 2 breaks in the Mountain Climbers which again I'm hopeful that I can do these unbroken by the end of the program.

Shift Shop Wk 1 D4 Strength 25 and Shift Core

My left shoulder is a little niggly, to my frustration, so I was careful but crushed Strength 25 again. I did up my weights so I was pleased with that but I had to modify the bear kicks on my knees.

Today I added Shift Core (as per calendar) straight after and it was really good. Great new moves that really hit the core muscles. Some really tough moves for me and some easier ones.

I'm enjoying Shift Shop so far and I love the fact that Cardio and Strength days flip flop but one complaint I personally have is all the plank work - its every day in every workout so my shoulders/upper arms are suffering slightly and don't feel like they are sufficiently recovered by the next day.
I may modify slightly tomorrow to try to give a bit more recovery in readiness for week 2 as I'm really looking forward to the longer workouts.

Shift Shop Wk 1 D3 Speed 25

Enjoyed this again today and actually managed to do it without an interruption lol

I had a take a couple of breaks on the mountain climbers again but I crushed the rest! My own longer stretch afterwards as normal.

Looking forward to Strength again tomorrow and the new Shift Core.

Shift Shop Wk 1 D2 Strength 25

This was a great starter strength workout today, great mix of upper and lower body. as always hard to know what weights to go with but I got them about right I think.

I used only 5lbs for shoulder press (my weak area that hopefully will get much stronger during the next 3 weeks) and 10lbs for everything else. Doesn't sound like much but 1 min is a long time lol.

I could have increased some but kept it the same and simple for first time through. Some moves like the sumo he has you hold and go up an inch and then down an inch and wow that burns!
I will go for 7.5 and 12.5lbs next time just for the challenge.

Plank work made me take breaks but I made notes so that I can get better each time.

I enjoyed so much I almost wanted to do it again he he but I didn't.

Shift Shop Wk 1 D1 Speed 25

Speed 25 and I did my best to crush it!

Had to take 3 breaks during Mountain Climbers - my shoulders will get stronger! Also 1 break during the Catchers Crawl OMG!

Burpees I went slower and tried to get a good plank as I usually jump back short and keep my butt in there (I filmed myself the other day and now I know lol) and as Chris says "20 good ones is better than 50 bad ones" ;)

Loved it and can't weight to try Strength 25 tomorrow - I so nearly did it today but decided to stay true to the program and see where it gets me.

I've previewed it along with Speed 35 & Strength 35 and I think it going to be an awesome progam - Lets Shift!

P90X3 Dynamix

Last time I did this was when I did P90X3 and I remember not liking this workout at all but today I loved it. It really stretched me out and I actually felt energised and supple when I'd finished and ready to take on the world!

Not sure if it's because I'm stronger or more flexible but I really enjoyed it and will be doing it much more often. Great recovery workout and a nice stretchy warm up routine too.

P90X3 Isometrix & 21DFE Yoga

Active rest day yesterday with 1.5 hrs of mowing, digging and more digging.

Recovery day for me today with P90X3 Isometrix and its ages since I've done this one and it showed!
Tree pose is the easiest for me by far.

Chased it with 21DFE Yoga ;)

P90X3 MMX and Yoga

P90X3 MMX and really enjoyed it, chased it with X3 Yoga as always a great combo for me.

Have a great weekend everybody.

Friday, 7 July 2017

H&C Max Hammer Strength

Max Hammer Strength today and Lunges and Squats @ 28kg / 62lb phew!! Only just manged my Sumo's with a 16kg / 35lb Kettlebell.

I increased my Pull overs and managed more assisted Pull ups, Chin ups and more full push ups too ;)

Loved it!

Thought about adding Glute Chisel but decided less is more and stretched out feeling accomplished.

Rest day

Rest day for me today. I wasn't feeling it at all - I couldn't face yoga so rest day it is. I've been pushing hard and listening to my body its what it needed. I need a good nights sleep tonight ready to hit the weights again tomorrow.

Wednesday, 5 July 2017

H&C Total Body Hammer & 15 Min Leg Hammer

H&C Total Body Hammer and I'm pretty pleased with my improvements. Round 1 I kept the same but I increased on all the other movements ;)

Chased it with 15 min Leg Hammer and was short on time but got most of it done.

I am toast!!!

T25 Core Speed, H&C 10 mins Abs Chisel & 21DFX Yoga

I started with T25 Core Speed but my energy was really low and I'm wondering if I'm fighting a off something again grrrrr. It turned into a real slog and although I really hate quitting workouts I decided it was best so with 14 mins to go I did H&C 10 mins Abs Chisel instead which I really enjoyed.

Chased that with 21DFX Yoga, thanks to others mentioning it - I gave it a go as its ages since I've done it and it was really good. A few different things in there which made a lovely change to Tony's yoga and I felt great afterwards.

Early night tonight and hopefully I'll be full of energy tomorrow.

Sneak peak Shift Shop Speed 25 and H&C Total body Chisel

I was disappointed today that the new Shift Shop sneak peak was the same Speed 25 as last time and not a new one but I did it anyway.

Had some interruptions again and energy seemed low today but got it done, then went straight into Total Body Chisel. Increased my weights in most areas although failed on bench press but hey that's a good thing 😉

Saturday, 1 July 2017

Max 30 Tabata Strength and T25 Stretch

Max 30 Tabata Strength today and OMG did I sweat. I really gave it my all, modified the push ups where I had to but tried to keep going and never stop for more than 2 breaths Phew!

I chased it with T25 Stretch which I haven't don't before and although it was a great stretch is was all lower body which was a little disappointing so I had to stretch out my arms and shoulders after wards. Also some of the hip flexor stretches made my legs shake that much after yesterday and today that I couldn't hold them!

I was still sweating even after finishing the stretch - wow Shaun is the Man!!!

Looking forward to the Sneak Peek again on Monday for the Shift Shop and then because I enjoyed this week so much I'm going to do it again. ;)
