Welcome to my fitness log

I've created this to keep everything to do with my fitness journey in one place for easy reference.
I've listed links to places I visit regularly or places I think are interesting or valuable resources.

I started doing Crossfit September 22nd 2009 and I loved it - it's totally awesome and it made me a better person in so many different ways!

After nearly 4 years of Crossfit and wrist injury I tried a home fitness DVD for a change and something new - Rip 60 was really great and then I found Beachbody / Tony Horton's P90X!
It's THE best home fitness program ever!!!
It changed my body in so many amazing ways and got my cardio fitness, my core and overall strength including push up strength better than ever before!!

I now do many Beachbody programs as they are all so great.
I 'm a big Tony Horton fan because he makes me work hard but makes me laugh at the same time.
After I completed P90X, I did P90X3, P90X2 and some P90X+. I''ve tried other Beachbody programs including the P90, Piyo, Focus T25,
21 Day Fix Extreme, Country Heat, BodyBeast and Insanity, The Aslyum 1 and 2. Completed 21 Day Fix and 22 Min hard Core.

Did some Insanity Max 30 and Core de Force but my knees can't handle jumping every day so I have to mix them in.
Shift shop is great and looking forward to the new 80 Day obsession.

I'm the fittest I've ever been in my life and still getting stronger every day!

MHC - Hammer Build Up & 15 Min Leg Hammer

I did Hammer build up tonight, substituted for Iso Speed Hammer like last time. Upped my weights to 2 x 5kg and used my 3kg ball. Enjoyed it but was tough working the same muscles that I thrashed yesterday ;(

I chased it with 15 min leg hammer which was good but felt like it came round a little quick having only done it 2 days ago?
I'm still not sleeping well and I've been trying to workout the cause and believe it or not I'm wondering if its these total body workouts??? Thrashing my whole body everyday is taking its toll so I don't think there is any point in pushing it for another week and a half. I really need to sleep better and I'm not sure but I think its time for a change just to see if it makes any difference.

I'm thinking of going back to something of Tony's - probably P90X, maybe keep the core strength up with P90X2 or maybe P90X3 again? Hmmmmm decisions decisions???

MHC - Total Body Chisel & 10 min Abs Chisel

So I upped some of my weights today with some success and some not so much.

I also tried the barbell for squats but that wasn't very successful either as the amount of weight I need too heavy to safely get on and off my back ;( Maybe be worth it when I get my squat rack back up again at some point in the future. So stick to dumbbells for now.

Abs went really well no real breaks except for the scissor move, thats really tough for me even with resting my heal down each rep omg! Is it just me that struggles with this one???

MHC - Max Hammer Strength & 15 Min Leg Hammer

This was tough but good tonight. Upped my weights to 2 x 9kg / 20lb for reverse lunges and just made it through phew!
Bench press at 2 x 25lb again only just after all those push ups. Squat was 2 30lbs again but my shoulder is not happy holding that while squatting ;(
Pull over up to 10kg / 22lb that was good. SLDL up to 2 x 8kg / 18lb. 35b rows still only just especially after an extra rep on pull ups.
I managed the 7th rep on 2x 7kg / 15lb Military press too so more progress ;)
Calf raises with 2 x 40b tonight was very doable except that they felt heavy in the hands!

Leg hammer went well too ;)

MHC - Chisel Balance and Abs Chisel

Phew - this was tough tonight I should I say draining. After those couple of days off it felt like I was starting again from the beginning again.

But saying that overall pleased with progress - it's the last time we do it on the 60 day calendar. I have done this workout 5 times and I started with 4kg/9lb for everything and finished with 5kg/11lbs for Leg sit and the balance row, 6kg/13lb for pull overs, Rows and Arm press, 9kg/20lb on the Deadlift, Split squats all on the floor to all on the bench and the up downs with breaks to doing them non stop so I call that progress. :)

I was toast for the abs but pushed through as much as I could.

MHC - Hammer Power

Felt good to back to it today with Hammer Power - great workout!

Did it without gloves as I feel when I hold weights for a long time with my gloves on, my fingers go numb!

Fountain on Youth Yoga

Just a little yoga tonight. I spent 3 hours cleaning and moving furniture during the day so I'm pleased with what I've done.

MHC - Chisel Cardio

After two days rest and not as good quality sleep as I'd like I got Chisel Cardio done today but didn't go crazy hard with some of the legs stuff, went a little lighter on the 2nd round than last time I did it = more cardio effect which was the aim of the game lol.

Might do some yoga tomorrow then chill on sunday ready to get back to it on monday. I will then have moved my sunday rest day to match the thursday rest day from the calendar - may it will help.

MHC - Hammer Conditioning & 10 min abs Hammer

This went well tonight, I upped my weights in some moves, others I kept the same. I felt like I was really working hard but thats not reflected in my calories ;(
I also did the burpees wrong the first time, I skipped the renegade row so after I did all 12 burpee with upright rows I did it again with the rows - phew! I got it right the second round :)

I think my body maybe needs a rest. I usually do a recovery week after 3 continuous weeks (Most of Tony's do anyway) and I have been doing 6 days a week for 5 weeks now and I think I could do with a couple of days recovery before the final couple of weeks of this. I've lowered my calories and I'm pushing harder and after all these weeks (most nights not sleeping well either) I'm feeling a little run down and I don't want to risk an injury. It's hard to push for more when you don't feel fully recovered.
I could carry on and just go light weight but that would just feel a little half hearted??
Any thoughts?

Abs went better tonight, making more progress. Oblique crunches I hardly stopped, Side plank obliques I managed 15 each side compared to 13 last time ;) Windshield wipers seems pretty easy and the leg lowering one my abs are much stronger as I could get much lower than last time. The run at the end I actually managed to keep going for the full time. So really pleased ;)

MHC - Chisel Agility & 15 Min Glute Chisel

Chisel Agility was good tonight but second round was tough - tougher than last time and I'm not sure why considering I rested yesterday? I think I'm just pushing harder, and getting lower and boy it made a difference.

I was pretty much toast by the end but chased it with Glute Chisel and wowweee!
The 25 Sumo jacks with ball curl were fine like last time, but the bulgarians with back leg on ball were really horrible after all the lunges in Agility but I pushed through the pain and managed from he first time all 25 of them - just!

The jumping curtsey lunge with the ball shoulder press was impossible for me last time so I decided to drop the ball and just try them unweighted and I got them all done. But I couldn't quite manage all the shoulder press's as the concentration on the crazy leg moves was taking some co-ordinating!

The 25 side lunges with ball adductor was ok. But those single leg bridges on the ball grrrrr I improved again only by 2 reps making a total of 12 on each leg of the required 25 and my hamstring cramped up (thats a new one for me) = ouchy.

Pleased with progress but more still to be made lol

MHC - Total Body Hammer

Pushed again tonight and pleased with progress.
Managed a few more pull ups with toe against the wall. Military press kept the same and only just made it again with a few extra breaths. Everything else was upped so I'm happy ;)

End of a tough week and I'm ready for rest day tomorrow.

MHC - Power Chisel

So I tried my last new workout of Hammer and Chisel - Power Chisel. It's nothing like Power Hammer and it's another great little workout = pre fatigue set like Max Hammer Strength (some with plyo moves) but with the  added bonus of iso holds in there too!! Then go for a heavy set of 10 reps!! Magic!

Short and sweat but with the right weights very effective!!! Another amazing workout by the Chisel!!!

MHC - Hammer Build Up & 15 Min Leg Hammer

I did Hammer build up tonight, substituted for Iso Speed Hammer, which was pretty good. Didn't go crazy on the weights but increased them all from last time and it gave me a nice little total body pump without being crazy hard - which after the last 3 days I think my body needed that.

I chased it with 15 min leg hammer which I also enjoyed. Another total body workout but with a good hint of cardio with a dash of bicep and shoulder work thrown for good measure!

Loving it!!!

MHC - Chisel Balance & 15 Min Glute Chisel

Wowee upped my weight on single leg deadlift, Ren. row lift and arm press bridge and just about survived it lol. Kept the rest the same and glad I did.

Chased it with Glute Chisel and OMG that really is tough, especially after Chisel Balance.
The 25 Sumo jacks with ball curl are ok, but the bulgarians with back leg on ball are horrible and I only managed 20 of them!
The jumping curtsey lunge with the ball shoulder press was just down right impossible for me to do tonight with tired legs!! The 25 side lunges with ball adductor was ok I managed all 25 of them just. And OMG the single leg bridge on the ball I improved in thank fully and I managed 10 on each leg of the required 25 = lots more improvements to be made in this one!!!!

Tough but loving it!

MHC - Hammer Power & 10 min Abs Hammer

Upped some of my weights again tonight and really enjoyed it.

Abs again after this was a little cruel after chisel abs last night but hey what doesn't kill you and all that!Made a little more progress on the runs on the end - I only after take about a 5 secs break now down from 10 secs so hopefully all the way without stopping next time.

Really need to get my barbell out for the deadlifts next time I think as 2 x 35lbs / 16kg are just wrong! My shoulders weren't keen on the movement either going from front of the body to the side like Sagi shows :(

Hmm maybe I will try it all with the barbell after all and just becarefull not to let the weight pull on my wrist, hold it more like the dumbbells - if you know what I mean. It wouldn't be true power lifting technique but then doing it with dumbbells isn't either lol. And turning over the heavy dumbbells is actually bothering my never been injured wrist in a different place. Grrrrrr

MHC - Total Body Chisel & Chisel Abs

Really enjoyed his again tonight.

I have to pause a few times because I'm upping weights that much that I just can't keep the pace in the final set, my bench takes much longer to adjust than theirs and I have to keep checking and getting the right weight, but overall I'm really pleased with my progress.

Followed it with he 10 min ab burner that is chisel abs!!! Oh these moves make my abs cry ;( but it must be good for them right?

Love it!

MHC - Hammer Power & 10 Min Abs Hammer

Loved this today, upped most of my weights and got a really a great workout!!

Even enjoyed the abs afterwards as I made some noticeable improvements by nearly getting through one of the really hard sections and managing full time on another - progress!!!

Love the variety and love this program - another 500 cals sweated away ;)

MHC - Chisel Agilty

Enjoyed this tonight - no major improvements but glad to rest hands a little as that med ball took its toll on my wrists and forearms yesterday!

MHC - Hammer Build Up & 15 Min Leg Hammer

So substituted these for Iso Hammer which I really didn't like and this was good fun.

I went pretty light on the weights only used 3kg for everything except the pull over 5kg but I think I needed a lighter day after 3 heavy heavy days. It really is a total body routine and with heavier weights be a great workout.

I chased it with 15 min leg hammer and that is a great little workout. You do the whole thing with a med ball in your hand I only used a 3kg/7lb ball and wow I was still shaking when I lifted my water for my post workout shake!!

A really great routine and for me lots of upper body work too and my upper body will limit the weight of the ball to really work my legs till I get stronger! But considering all the leg stuff in the main problem thats probably a good thing!

I have to say I think both the 15min routines on the deluxe dvd have been marketed poorly - They are so much more than just a 'leg' or ' glute' workout - they are great little add on routines when you want a little extra to the 30-40 mins. They are also not very 'leg' & 'glute' specific as the name implies so that can set you up for disappointment - in my opinion.
They are great routines and I think the deluxe disc is well worth getting but the titles of the two 15 mins ones are very misleading.

MHC - Chisel Cardio and 15 min Glute Chisel

So loved this cardio today, I upped my weights and also got personal best on my burpees wahoo! Boy was I sweating today omg!!

My deluxe dvd arrived today so as it was on the calendar as an option - I added the 15 min Glute Chisel and wow!!!

I was pretty tired after 3 heavy leg days but I thought I'd see how it went and it was tough on very tired legs. I did about half of it overall and I was toast but the last move - 1 leg bridge on a medicine ball and for a start I couldn't get my but off the ground!! I pushed really hard and after a real real struggle I managed only 4 reps on each side - Chisel wanted 25!!! OMG x 10!!!!

And just a word of warning this isn't just Glutes at all - it's lower body plus you have a medicine ball in your hand so you get a shoulder workout in there too!!!
Brutal but brilliant!!!

It took me to the hour which I was really chuffed about and with my stretch afterwards I burnt over 600 cals!!!

MHC - Max Hammer Strength

Another good one, legs were quite tired and the one arm rows felt hard tonight after chisel balance yesterday.

Enjoyed though as usual.

Monday, 4 January 2016

MHC - Wk 4 Chisel Balance

Enjoyed this again tonight and boy this works you!!

That last move is a beast and its so hard to stop the sweat dripping!

Saturday, 2 January 2016

MHC - Chisel Iso Strength

Loved this but it is pretty brutal - those holds just make your muscles scream!!!!

3 weeks completed and I love what changes are starting to happen with my body, especially my upper body which for me has always been hard to improve so I'm super happy!!!

This Hammer and Chisel is fast becoming my all-time favourite!!! I'm not following the eating plan completely but I'm trying to keep my cals down to 1800 and eating clean and I'm still seeing changes = wahoo!!!

MHC - Hammer Plyo

Enjoyed this again tonight -was thinking it was chisel cardio all day but then a quick check and doh!!! its hammer plyo!

Great workout, improved my numbers and my weights ;)

The chin up crunch squat - I modified and did 3 chin crunch then 3 squat jumps then 3 chin ups which meant I got more done as using the chin up max assist band is time consuming. I may try jumping chin ups next time instead.
May also doing jumping pull up to speed things up on the burpee pull ups as I can only 3 done in the time frame using the assist :(
