Welcome to my fitness log

I've created this to keep everything to do with my fitness journey in one place for easy reference.
I've listed links to places I visit regularly or places I think are interesting or valuable resources.

I started doing Crossfit September 22nd 2009 and I loved it - it's totally awesome and it made me a better person in so many different ways!

After nearly 4 years of Crossfit and wrist injury I tried a home fitness DVD for a change and something new - Rip 60 was really great and then I found Beachbody / Tony Horton's P90X!
It's THE best home fitness program ever!!!
It changed my body in so many amazing ways and got my cardio fitness, my core and overall strength including push up strength better than ever before!!

I now do many Beachbody programs as they are all so great.
I 'm a big Tony Horton fan because he makes me work hard but makes me laugh at the same time.
After I completed P90X, I did P90X3, P90X2 and some P90X+. I''ve tried other Beachbody programs including the P90, Piyo, Focus T25,
21 Day Fix Extreme, Country Heat, BodyBeast and Insanity, The Aslyum 1 and 2. Completed 21 Day Fix and 22 Min hard Core.

Did some Insanity Max 30 and Core de Force but my knees can't handle jumping every day so I have to mix them in.
Shift shop is great and looking forward to the new 80 Day obsession.

I'm the fittest I've ever been in my life and still getting stronger every day!

One on One Butt and Belly & Max 30 Max Out 15

Tried a new one tonight with TH's One on One Butt and Belly and it was quite good. Not what I was expecting as it was easier than I thought though.

The abs sections were tough in places but apart from a few burny quads the butt part was I thought fairly easy. Tony was sweating and struggling and I'm maybe glistening a little but wondering when he was going to make me work = very odd!

The pace was pretty slow on the first round and he picked up the pace in the second round because he short on time and that was a little more fun for me. Great for anyone wanting a non plyo leg day with some good abs work then this is it lol

At the end of the 48 mins I wanted something more so I went in for a quickie with Shaun T and Max Out 15. That woke me up lol. I was careful with shoulder and still had to modify the plank work but I did try a few wall push ups. It was a little soon after treatment but I had to try. It didn't hurt but I was aware of it so I'll still take it steady and try and get it strong again.

One thing the physio did say that my upper back is tight and because of the trigger point near my shoulder playing up that might have caused my shoulder to be slightly out of position making it vulnerable that night when I hurt it. That does make me feels little better ;)

Kitchen and Physio

Nothing for me again today ☹️ yesterday was hectic with finishing the kitchen so we had to spend 3 hours putting all the stuff back in it but after 2 very long sleep deprived and poor food days I'm so shattered but we finally have a super kitchen at last. 😄Today I've been back to Physio again for more treatment. I can start doing some wall push ups so progress

Max 30 Cardio Challenge

Kitchen fitter in from 7.30am this morning = much earlier start for us than normal, lead to not quite as good eating as normal, eating later than planned and tough to get a workout in.

Our small living room was reduced in size as it was holding the contents of the kitchen but I manged to make enough room to get most of my mat on the floor to attempt something lol.

I figured I had no chance of Plyo X so I went for something quick and intense to help ease some of the stress and tensions of the day (tough for Shaun's stuff) so Max 30 Cardio Challenge was it.

I had to modify the plank work to standing knee raises and power knees as best as I good. Burpees I just did squats for and overall I kept my HR up there during the modifications. But I had many interruptions along the way which is no where near ideal for Max out workouts but hey at least I got something done and I felt better for it ;)

P90X Back and Biceps

After a crazy busy and tiring weekend I finally got a workout in at last.
Back and Biceps at home with some cautions modification for my shoulder still. It feels fine but I'm still doing no pushing movements or planks. Seeing Physio again on Thursday so hopefully get the go ahead to move forward with it.

Pull ups became a mixture of Rip 60 Straps and bent over rows, but I increased on some bicep moves and a personal best ever for me on the Strip set curls at the end wahoo!!

Not sure how tomorrow will go as we have the kitchen fitter in to finally sort our kitchen out but I'm hoping to find time to get some plyo/cardio in there when he's done - I'll need it to get rid of the stress of the last few days.

P90X Legs and Back

Legs and Back today with modifications for shoulder and some of my own changes for legs.

Chin ups I cautiously used Rip 60 Straps, Pull up I swapped for Bent over rows, and Switch grip pull up I used Rip 60 straps again before the water break. After the water break I skipped all pull ups because I didnt want to upset my shoulder and I was pleased I managed something.

Legs...Deadlift squats I added weight as always and added the knee raise, Sneaky lunges I swapped for weighted Step with knee raise and step back lunge (Step up convict from X2), Toe Roll Iso lunge I swapped for Heavy weighted lunges and Chair salutations done with hands in prayer instead of over head.

Loved it and it was just what I needed as it really got the heart pumping with no jumping.

I also couldn't resist wearing my HRM lol.

Shoulder and P90X Plyometrics

Yesterday was Shoulder physio day = Strained rotator cuff :(
Massage, ultrasound and some strapping/taping. No pushing or planks at all. But pulling should be ok so at least I can do something. It means tomorrows Chest, Shoulders and Tri's is out of the window so might have to move calendar around but time heals all doesn't it. I've got to go back physio next week.

Today with no arm raises at all I did Plyometrics. It was hard not using my arms but I needed to get the blood pumping and it certainly did that.

I've done a couple of workouts now without my HRM and I miss it lol. It's almost part of my preworkout ritual and I think I really like it for the accountability.

I may not bother with it for some strength workouts but I think I might stick with it for cardio ones ;)

P90X Hyb Month 2 Back and Biceps

I did most of the pull ups today as kneeling pull downs for two reasons - 1) to try to build up more strength & 2) cautious with shoulder although its feeling much better.

I did some light weight 20kg/45lb (especially towel and corn cobs) and some 30kg/66lb but my shoulder felt good so for chin ups I used Chin up max on the bar.

This workout really does fry your biceps!!!! I managed the strip set the same as last time I did this workout so I need to up that for next week.

At the end of the workout I decreased the resistance of my chin up max by two inches. So although I may get less reps I'm after building the strength. No point getting 8-10 reps of assisted pull ups if that doesn't get you closer to unassisted right?
John would you advise going for 6-8 assisted at less resistance then when I hit 8 again decreased again for 6-8 or should I be aiming at 4-6?? Any other thoughts for chin up strength progression???

22MHC Cardio 2

Didn't do any workout yesterday after 2 leg heavy days but did paint the kitchen and porch walls, fit a kitchen cabinet door and 2 door drawers fronts, make up 2 standard kitchen cabinets and 3 drawers. It suprising how physical building kitchen items from flat pack can be.

I don't normally workout on a Sunday but had lots of energy so I had to do something and a quick 22MHC Cardio 2 was the chosen one.

Slight modifications for shoulder but I managed some mountain climbers and some push ups (subbed for Water bugs lol) with no ill effects felt in the shoulder so fingers crossed I'm on the mend. Still got physio appointment on Tuesday so I will get her to check it out especially as I haven't tried a Chaturanga position yet (how I hurt it) but I'm hopeful it's all good and it was just a minor sprain after all.

Hope everyone is having a great Easter.

Insanity Pure Cardio

I gave Insanity Pure Cardio, with modifications for my shoulder, a shot tonight.

I have only ever done this one twice before April and Aug 15 and I was curious to see how far I've come!!

I also tried a new preworkout tonight - Shaun T's own and I'm really surprised how well I did. How much of that is less arm work and no burpees meant more energy and power left for the legs or Shaun T's pre workout it amazing I'm not sure how much of which palyed a part but I had a great workout, really enjoyed it and look forward to doing it again lol

T25 Lower Focus and IM30 Ab Attack 10

So after trying to rest my shoulder as much as possible Tuesday, it feeling better wednesday until push very light door open and a pain shot up through it leading to more cautious rest.

Today and very carefully did T25 Lower Focus modified to no jumping and very little left arm movement. Followed by modified Ab Attack 10 as best as I could. First plank move I held bridge the entire time. Some of the plank moves I tried just leaning on my desk with one arm and did the legs. I just did the best that I could.

It felt great to do something and get the blood pumping.

I'm also debating on whether or not to stop bothering with the HR monitor any more - I know roughly what I'm burning each workout now anyways but its kind of a routine I've gotten into??

P90X Core Synergisics

Recovery week for me so got started with Core Synergisics and it was great fun. I went light with just 5lb weighs and omg cooling down and my left shoulder starts complaining and holy moly I think I've strained my front delt. I'm so frustrated it's just not funny!!

I'm really hoping total rest tonight and a good nights sleep sorts it out but right now I'm typing one handed and daren't lift my other arm to see if it hurts 😟

P90X+ Kenpo Cardio Plus and 22MHC Spec Ops Cardio

I went for P90X+ Kenpo Cardio Plus tonight for a slight change of pace, enjoyed it but when I was done I wanted a bit more of something so I went for 22MHC Spec Ops Cardio.

I was very cautious on the burpee rolls (not getting all the reps at all) and still find the crawl jacks really tough to get all reps but crushed the rest as best as I could. Apart from Burpee rolls which need a heavy weight to help get upright I used an increased weight for each round 😉

Great end to my third week back at it!! Get Some!!!

P90X Legs and back

Legs and back tonight for me and I got to my pull up bar for this one thank goodness. Still haven't got my chin up back yet - I managed about 3/4 of the way up so more progress 😃

Some good increases on my weights today too. I swapped out toe roll iso lunge again for weighted lunges and just to work my legs even more this week I swapped Sneaky lunges for 10 weighted step ups on each side.

I pushed hard tonight as its nearly the end of week 3 and its recovery/transition week next week. Loving this round of P90X!!!!

P90X Yoga X

I went for the challenge that is Yoga X tonight.....and no one can me sweat doing yoga like Tony can lol especially when you haven't this workout in 14 months!

Really enjoyed it, though it did start getting tough after the first 30 mins 😉 but I stuck with it as best as I could.
Apart from my glutes screaming in the warrior 3/moons poses I really enjoyed and was pleased with my balance in the balance series.

P90X Shoulders and Arms

More improvements in reps and weights this afternoon for me in Shoulders and Arms 😁

Even a new Personal Best on lying tricep extension with 8 reps at 15lbs Yay!

P90X3 Triometrics, 22MHC Core 1 and Cardio 1

I did my triple whammy again today but swopped them round lol. So I did 22MHC Cardio 1 (burpees with hands on tool box - closer to the floor than last week for my back), straight into Core 1 (major improvements ie I got all the reps this week wahoo!) and then finished with P90X3 Triometrics OMG!!

Loved it!!

I can't believe the improvements I'm seeing week to week at the moment. I always knew this was how its supposed to be but for so many years I haven't been eating correctly for my body that it wasn't fueling me properly. It's like a whole new world has opened up for me.

P90X Wk 3 Chest and Back

Had to workout at home again tonight so pull ups were using Rip 60 straps and bands again, I missed my pull up bar but hey its better than nothing. Also had one interruption but that's life!

Really pleased with my numbers and weight increases for push ups, heavy pants and lawnmowers over the last 3 weeks ;) My back strength (Heavy Pants and Lawnmowers) is almost back to what it was in Feb 16. My push ups are the best they've ever been :)

Subbed Dive bomber and Diamond push ups for normal push ups all using push up stands.

Eating for my metabolic type is making a huge difference to my energy levels and I think my strength gains too. Can't wait to see how I can improve over the next few weeks.

P90X Kenpo X and BOD Yoga Stretch

I wondered about swopping Kenpo X today but after last week and so many muscles were awoken by it I had to give it another go today - love it!!

Because I missed Yoga on Thursday I chased it with BOD Yoga stretch which just calmed and stretched me out wonderfully.

2 weeks of P90X (with other yogas) done ;)
