Welcome to my fitness log

I've created this to keep everything to do with my fitness journey in one place for easy reference.
I've listed links to places I visit regularly or places I think are interesting or valuable resources.

I started doing Crossfit September 22nd 2009 and I loved it - it's totally awesome and it made me a better person in so many different ways!

After nearly 4 years of Crossfit and wrist injury I tried a home fitness DVD for a change and something new - Rip 60 was really great and then I found Beachbody / Tony Horton's P90X!
It's THE best home fitness program ever!!!
It changed my body in so many amazing ways and got my cardio fitness, my core and overall strength including push up strength better than ever before!!

I now do many Beachbody programs as they are all so great.
I 'm a big Tony Horton fan because he makes me work hard but makes me laugh at the same time.
After I completed P90X, I did P90X3, P90X2 and some P90X+. I''ve tried other Beachbody programs including the P90, Piyo, Focus T25,
21 Day Fix Extreme, Country Heat, BodyBeast and Insanity, The Aslyum 1 and 2. Completed 21 Day Fix and 22 Min hard Core.

Did some Insanity Max 30 and Core de Force but my knees can't handle jumping every day so I have to mix them in.
Shift shop is great and looking forward to the new 80 Day obsession.

I'm the fittest I've ever been in my life and still getting stronger every day!

Physio update about back pain

Saw physio again today and although I was feeling and moving so much better and itching to get back to my workouts, she pressed on me to see how I was doing and there are still really tender parts (much to my surprise) ;(
Most of the spasm has gone but still a little left. She gave me some treatment to help loosen off some stiffness and told me to still rest it more.

I can however try some gentle yoga and some upper body weights seated but no jumping, planks, pull ups or any core work yet.

So at least I can start doing something at last - yippeee!
But she has stressed to me to take it slow and steady and I will. I'd rather spend the next 4 weeks building back up slowly to 100% than go 100% for one week and then be out of action for 6-8 weeks. I learnt that lesson the painful way and I will not repeat it. I'll go back to see her a week today just get another check to make sure all is good.

So it might be hard but I'm going to do it and get back up to full speed slowly and cautiously. Thank goodness for the modifiers as I think I'll be following them for a while.

Back pain - sprained deep muscles grrrrr

I woke up in more pain today, took some pain killers and anti-inflam's after breakfast and left for work - but I couldn't get in the car for the sudden pain and spasm in my back.
I tried again OMG the pain!!!
Took a few breaths and tried again and nope same again and this time it brought me to tears!!!

Not a happy bunny at all. I took a few minutes and then managed to slide in kinda backwards! So I decided enough was enough and went physio (thankfully there had been a cancellation so they could see in a few hours). She strapped me up as it too inflamed for any treatment and told me I've sprained some deep muscles in my back.

Probably caused from the coughing when I had the flu (which is annoying but actually a relief that I didn’t do anything silly in a workout and cause it so phew!) and although it was nearly mended because I went back to my workouts too soon I’ve irritated and re-upset it hence the sheer pain and agony! Stupid stupid stupid!!!

So guess what…rest, rest and grrrrr more rest for me. I’m so frustrated. I’m annoyed at myself for getting back into it too quickly but I thought it would be fine = I was wrong grrrrrr. She wants to see me next week to check on me but don't do anything I don’t ‘need’ to do for a few weeks till it calms down.

I will be here cheering you guys on but no workout for me till it’s 100% better and then back into it slowly.

BBeast Bulk Chest

Sunday I woke up in lots of pain with my back again so clearly punching and kicking (MMX sat morning) is irritating something in my back so no more punching and kicking for me for a while.

I'm back on the Beast wagon this week though with Bulk Chest today. Short and sweet but it pumped my chest up for sure. I was cautious with the incline press for my shoulder but it went well :)

22MHC Cardio 1 and P90X3 MMX

I went for a double today with 22MHC Cardio 1 followed by P90X MMX and it was great.

Tough but so much fun and I burnt a few calories in the process!

Love it!

P90X3 Eccentric Upper

Loved this tonight - had to modify with Rip 60 straps again at home but overall got a really great workout and shaky arms so I know I got my weights about right ;)

Been a great week with X3 but I'm going for a longer cardio workout at my gym tomorrow - want good cardio blast but not too heavy on the legs with squats and lunges as DOMS from yesterday lol - any suggestions 40 - 60 mins ??

P90X3 Eccentric Lower

P90X3 Eccentric Lower was pretty brutal tonight but I can't tell you how good it feels to be getting to full strength again.

Loved every second of it except the burny glute pain and the shaky wobbly legs afterwards lol

I subbed the calf dog for standing calf raise as I find it more effect so I did 10 reps straight toes and 10 reps turned out toes. (from P90X ;))

Those adductor lunges after everything else just made my booty scream!

P90X3 Yoga

P90X3 Yoga today for me and my legs were objecting a little after triometrics yesterday lol. Airplane was pretty tough for me.

Also confession to making some chocolate brownies this afternoon and eating 2 of them - naughty but very nice. I also skipped carbs with my dinner to make room.
The calories from yoga did nothing to help offset it either but hopefully and can burn more the rest of the week ;)

P90X3 Triometrics

Woweee I forgot how tough P90X3's Triometrics one can be!
It's surprising how quickly you can loose you finesse with balance and your cardio shape too.

I struggled with oxygen in places but really enjoyed it.
I don't think I fueled my body well enough for it though. That one slice of linseed and oat bread with dinner was just not enough but I'm still learning with my new work schedule so I will know for next time.

P90X3 Incinerator

So my back pain is lots better - not completely gone but about 95% gone and if I rest anymore I'll go crazy!!!!

I thought I'd ease back in with few 30 mins workouts and I'm missing Tony H so P90X3 it is with Incinerator.

Really enjoyed it - my back hurt me once in the warm up beleive it or not then never hurt me again through the workout!
Slightly modified with Rip 60 straps for pull ups and chin ups but got it done. I got most of weights right except the 12.5lbs for last move Rocket Launcher kick backs and on tired triceps it was too much. I managed 12 reps back in October but today only 2 and then backed down to 10 lbs to finish off.

The burn out went great till he said "just over a minute to go" and I was toast. It was like I hadn't worked out in months all of a sudden lol. Great fun though, nice to have a giggle with Tony and it feels great to back at it :)

PS I dont think my Peak HR of 199 is real lol I think my was HRM messing about.

Back pain

Not slept well the last few nights again and last night I had some back ache. Woke this morning with worse back ache that is agony when I look down. It's weird as I had something similar when I had been on the sofa for 3 days?? I actually think its from the pike push ups in Max 30 Tabata Strength - I felt my back not overly happy as I got tired :(

So no workout today - with work being more physical for me now I think rest is in order today.

I might take a few more days next week to adjust to the new work load before I take on Bulk Beast. I really want to carry on with the hybrid but I think its only fair to my body to give it another week.

I'll do some other workouts just to see how I'm feeling then hopefully go for it next week.

BBeast Total Body

I felt ready for some lifting so Beast Total Body. I had to do it at home so modified the pull ups to Rip 60 Strap pull ups/rows and using my Bowflex takes a bit longer to change weights.

Had a pause a few times as the pace is pretty quick in this one but OMG did I enjoy this workout tonight. Absolutely loved it, my body felt strong and I smashed more full push ups than I've ever done :)
I didn't do the incline press because of no bench or ball at home and I didn't want to aggravate my shoulder so I did floor chest press.

I think I've learnt one crucial thing these last few weeks = I don't rest/recover enough!
So anybody that notices if I start pushing too hard in a recovery week or between programs/hybrids can someone kindly give me a virtual kick in backside please.
I know about over training and I know it can creep up on people and I advise about/against it as I can see it others but sometimes I clearly don't always practice what I preach.

BOD Yoga Stretch

Needed something gentle so Foundation Week of BOD 21 Day Yoga Retreat Day 2 Stretch was the chosen one and it was just what I needed.

Still undecided on how much to push tomorrow as last two night didn't sleep well at all.

My days have all changed again as I'm now having to work different hours doing more physical work which means bang go my morning workouts. So after I get my normal work done now in the afternoon I'm back to evening workouts. Which is fine but it means I have to travel to my gym grrrrrr or use minimal equipment at home!

Max 30 Tabata Strength

So I'm feeling much better now (after mostly 2 weeks off from the dreaded lergy flu, thinking I was right as nine-pence and then rough again) so I wanted to get back into it and went for Max 30 Tabata Strength.

Great fun, really enjoyed - didn't push crazy crazy hard but gave it a good go if you know what I mean ;)

Struggled on some of the later stages of shoulder work and push ups as expected but enjoyed every second.

Might go a little easier the rest of the week as I don't want to set myself back again and it is recovery week after all lol but boy its good to be back.

BBeast Build Back and Bi's

Long busy day but got something done.

Went fairly well matching most of my weights from 2 weeks ago apart from by left bicep started hurting again on the seated bicep curl?

Energy was low and I was struggling so after set 2 of 1,1,2 Hammer curl I skipped the rest and just did the Cobra's and stretched.

I'm clearly not fully recovered either from the flu or in the bicep so pushing on would have been stupid.
Onward and upward!
