Welcome to my fitness log

I've created this to keep everything to do with my fitness journey in one place for easy reference.
I've listed links to places I visit regularly or places I think are interesting or valuable resources.

I started doing Crossfit September 22nd 2009 and I loved it - it's totally awesome and it made me a better person in so many different ways!

After nearly 4 years of Crossfit and wrist injury I tried a home fitness DVD for a change and something new - Rip 60 was really great and then I found Beachbody / Tony Horton's P90X!
It's THE best home fitness program ever!!!
It changed my body in so many amazing ways and got my cardio fitness, my core and overall strength including push up strength better than ever before!!

I now do many Beachbody programs as they are all so great.
I 'm a big Tony Horton fan because he makes me work hard but makes me laugh at the same time.
After I completed P90X, I did P90X3, P90X2 and some P90X+. I''ve tried other Beachbody programs including the P90, Piyo, Focus T25,
21 Day Fix Extreme, Country Heat, BodyBeast and Insanity, The Aslyum 1 and 2. Completed 21 Day Fix and 22 Min hard Core.

Did some Insanity Max 30 and Core de Force but my knees can't handle jumping every day so I have to mix them in.
Shift shop is great and looking forward to the new 80 Day obsession.

I'm the fittest I've ever been in my life and still getting stronger every day!

P90X3 Week 10 Decelerator

X3 Week 10 (already!)

Decelerator

With DOMS from complex lower - oh the joy lol I enjoy the variety of this one but it is tough.

I didn't even attempt the crane cracker push ups tonight, I just did push ups with a knee to elbow.

I upset my foot doing a side arm balance tonight and hope it mends ok overnight as it's MMX tomorrow and I'm looking forward to it!

P90X2 Recovery and Mobility

X2 Recovery and Mobility

Since my schedule got moved round my rest day doesn't fall on a sunday so I figured I should do something and I really need the foam roller to iron on the crinkles so I went for X2 Rec. & Mob.

The pacing is almost completely laid back by comparison to the push push push of X3 so it made real nice change. The warm up sun salutation is very slow at the start as he talks you through it and I remember before X3 I struggled to hold the plank while he was talking, tonight it was a breeze!! Really chuffed about that - just another indicator of my progress and improvements all thanks to X3 - it really is a great program! I mean all of Tony's are that I have done are brilliant but the 30 mins one really get the job done!

After doing the X3 Complex ones with the PAP, it makes me more inclined to have another stab at X2 when I've finished X3. I think it will be much easier having my core stronger and my balance so much better with X3 ;) We will see?

Felt great afterwards, that foam roller really helps get those knots, even the ones I didn't know I had lol. A really great rest day DVD.

P90X3 Complex Lower

X3 Complex Lower

Wow more P.A.P stuff as I understand it and it was quite tough but I have to be honest I was quite conservative on my weights as I really want to walk comfortably tomorrow and after I watched this last night I decided not to be stupid!
I did do Triometrics yesterday after all

So I did the first round of Knee drop squats, Bounding Split Squat(alternating plyo lunge with a press during the jump), Triple speed skater, DS Double L (deadlift, squat, right lunge, left lunge) and The Stabilizer (forearm side plank hold with leg raise if you can) with no weights to see how it felt.

The 2nd round with 2 x 10lb / 4.5kg for knee drop squats, and DS Double L, dropped to 2 x 6.6lb / 3kg for the 3rd and 4th rounds.
Bounding Split Squat I tried with 2 x 1.25kg in 2nd round but I find these really tough still so went weight free for the rest and tried to concentrate on just doing them.

The Stabilizer was ok modified but was really tough with foot in the air so only did a few of them but completed all the reps.

Overall I enjoyed it, pacing it pretty intense but doable. Assuming my legs feel good tomorrow I will up the weight next time or rather try higher weights for more rounds.

P90X3 Yoga

Gotta love pull ups lol and did my back muscles know to them yesterday but hey I'm getting better at them so they must be working

X3 Yoga for me today.

My half moons were much better tonight so pleased with that.

My Polar H7 HRM strap arrived this morning so tried it with Polar Beat app for this morning walk and Yoga this evening and it works really well  Gives me much better data to work with than my old watch.

Interested to see the HR results from triometrics tomorrow

P90X3 Complex Upper

X3 Complex Upper

I enjoyed this workout but it was tough. I couldn't manage all the reps but I tried.

Slow mo chin ups, x Plyo push ups, w pull ups, lunge thrust press and lots of rounds of them!

I did as many as I could and modified when I had to and have a base to work from and increase on next time. My push ups and chin ups numbers surprised me especially considering how many push ups I've done the last few days 3 days.

Great workout, I was gonna do The challenge in 2 weeks but now I maybe should look forward to doing this again and see where I can improve  decisions decisions?

HRM 53 mins 436 cal 45% fat Max 167 90% Avg 133 72%

My push ups were much better this time around too nice reminder of how far I've come

Decision now is for tomorrow - do I do The Challenge or Complex Upper?????

P90X3 Decelerator

X3 Decelerator

Wow what a workout! Full body workout this one with strength, balance with a touch of cardio from the pace!

Some of the upper body push up stuff was really tough for me! Those crane cracker push ups are ridiculous
I tried a little too hard I think and upset my shoulder a little due to poor form = stupid!

The elevator pull ups weren't so bad, but I couldn't keep up, hanging there trying to keep up as Tony shouts 'top floor....bottom floor....middle floor.....top floor' etc etc (They don't sounds like 21 pull-ups to me Jonathan - I didn't do them in the bit of X2 I did though)

The chin ups pulls (chin up then raise your knees) were surprising good for me I obviously still did them assisted but my strength felt good and I could hold at the top while I brought one knee up and the first few almost felt easy so that's a great sign

The elevator tiptoe squats were ok, I managed those lol but they are a thigh burner! Along with the spinning plyo squat lunges that made my legs shout mercy

and I just had pause to catch my breath before I could even think about going straight into....Big brother burpees - lol are you ready .... Jump to plank, do push up, tap right knee to right tricep, open up into side arm balance, lower back to plank, jump your feet up and jump knee tuck...repeat on the other side

All in all I enjoyed it, my upper body strength needs to improve for me to enjoy this more but I'm getting there, I couldn't have dreamt I could do some of these moves when I started so great progress made and lots more to make

P90X3 Yoga

X3 Yoga

Just a bit of Yoga today but its the new Decelerator tomorrow - just watching the dvd now and oh err it's looks a little ouchy!!

I thought elevator push ups were bad enough but now elevator squats on tip toes and elevator pull ups

Crane cracker push ups .....erm no!!

and Big brother burpees OMG!!!! they don't look fun at all!!!!

P90X3 CVX

X3 CVX

Well this was quite tough tonight grrr, really looking forward and a little disappointed that felt so tough.

Crazy day and a few hours with no food then a big meal, later than normal didn't help, not enough water played a part too grrr but got it done.

Mix of 2.5kg plate and 2kg DB. My shoulders were screaming a little towards the end.

One of those days I guess!!! Not to worry Yoga tomorrow then I start Block 3 with 3 new workouts wahoo!

P90X3 Pilates

OK I'm back!

After another 2 very long days moving business premesis I was completely shattered so didn't get my workouts in  I wanted to but I would have been stupid so I took the weekend off completely to recover (poor eating on sat too) and so back at it today ready and raring to go  - thank goodness.

X3 Pilates (3 days of 2nd transition week to go)

Something gentle to ease back in but didn't feel like much of a workout. Stretches with the breathing and still quite unfamiliar so have to watch the first rep or two.
Broke a sweat but didn't really feel like I did much so really looking forward to CVX tomorrow.
Also had a few triggers/knots in my quads tonight, I think from pilates (the one leg bridge thrust up thingy) without doing a full warm up grrrrr so spent a few mins foam rolling my upper legs - ahh much better

Note to self:- do proper warm up before pilates next time!

P90X3 Accelerator

X3 Accelerator

Wow I forgot what this one was like

We are moving units so today I've been lugging boxes and pushing heavy trolleys so I had sort of done a mini workout before I started tonight but hey ho'. More of the same tomorrow all day and poss friday too.

This one is tougher than it looks for me for sure! Mainly all the plank work makes my arms complain - it's getting better but I couldn't keep up with the kids tonight but I'm sure it was much better than last time lol

There is no way I would want to do this after Eccentric Upper  like those of you doing doubles!

P90X3 Dynamix

X3 Dynamix

I forgot what this one like and I actually quite enjoyed it tonight.

More improvements noticed  main ones being the stuff on your back when you keep your legs off the floor - I did them pretty easily  compared to last time I was struggling and had to keep putting my legs down and found it really hard so over the moon with that - nice when you get improvements without really trying lol

P90X3 Isometrix

X3 Transition Week 8 Isometrix

Phew some of these 45 secs holds are tough and some are easy

I needed the rest today though so isometric was good - get something down and sweat some but not completely knackered after it ahhh

P90X3 MMX

X3 MMX

Wow I really pushed myself tonight and managed to go through the whole thing without hitting the pause or rewind button  I was solo done at the end I struggled to get up for the cool down

My sprawls are getting better and faster but still zap my energy big time! Because of my long legs it seems to be better with a wider base to start from and jump back to too.

I've worked hard this week and really pleased with my progress - it's really paying off, I'm seeing improvements all over the place

P90X3 Incinerator

X3 Incinerator

Really enjoyed this today. Upped my weights and reps and my chin ups and pull ups are getting much easier
The burnout for this is still a beast though!

I can't believe we don't do this one again in the 90 days  it's such a great workout!

P90X3 Eccentric Lower

X3 Eccentric Lower

Upped some of my weights today, and carted them downstairs to workout in the living room and its much better with more room.

Be a few weeks till we do this one again!

P90X3 Yoga

X3 Yoga

Loved it! Half moon still makes me sweat but really enjoy my yoga sessions.
I even manage 3 secs of Crane/Crow tonight before I head butted the floor

P90X3 Triometrics

X3 Triometrics

Went well today, the first half felt almost easy  but then he turns the heat up and phew!!!

But really enjoyed it, I can nearly palm the floor now so my flexibility is definitely improving still

Been looking forward at the schedule and for block 3 weeks 9 and 11 there are two days where you need to chose i.e. Total Synergistics or Complex Lower, and the other is The Challenge or Complex Upper - do we think that if you have the Complex ones you do them?
I was thinking throw them in for week 9 and then not throw them in for week 11 just keep things changing but I'm really not sure?

Monday, 3 February 2014

P90X3 Eccentric upper

I can't believe it's week 7 already

X3 Eccentric upper

I increased my reps on chin ups and v pulls up today, I upped my weights on upright hammer pull, Lateral/anterior raise, Pterodactyl flys and Kneeling preacher curl too

I really pushed on my push ups too knowing its the last week of this block and I can feel in my chest tonight. Overall pleased with my progress.

P90X3 MMX

X3 MMX

Loved this tonight - I did much better now I know the moves better, one still caught me off guard and I had to rewind it but I managed to keep up much better today.

Sprawls are still tough for me and the sprawl with the scramble is such an energy sucker  but I really enjoyed it
