Welcome to my fitness log

I've created this to keep everything to do with my fitness journey in one place for easy reference.
I've listed links to places I visit regularly or places I think are interesting or valuable resources.

I started doing Crossfit September 22nd 2009 and I loved it - it's totally awesome and it made me a better person in so many different ways!

After nearly 4 years of Crossfit and wrist injury I tried a home fitness DVD for a change and something new - Rip 60 was really great and then I found Beachbody / Tony Horton's P90X!
It's THE best home fitness program ever!!!
It changed my body in so many amazing ways and got my cardio fitness, my core and overall strength including push up strength better than ever before!!

I now do many Beachbody programs as they are all so great.
I 'm a big Tony Horton fan because he makes me work hard but makes me laugh at the same time.
After I completed P90X, I did P90X3, P90X2 and some P90X+. I''ve tried other Beachbody programs including the P90, Piyo, Focus T25,
21 Day Fix Extreme, Country Heat, BodyBeast and Insanity, The Aslyum 1 and 2. Completed 21 Day Fix and 22 Min hard Core.

Did some Insanity Max 30 and Core de Force but my knees can't handle jumping every day so I have to mix them in.
Shift shop is great and looking forward to the new 80 Day obsession.

I'm the fittest I've ever been in my life and still getting stronger every day!

P90X Legs and Back

No workout for me yesterday as crazy busy and we went out to a show in the late evening. Swing Time with Anton du Beke  and Erin Boag from Strictly Come Dancing. It was brilliant.

Legs and back at home tonight so Rip 60 and bands for pull ups but worked hard on the legs  increasing all weights from last week = phew!

A few interruptions along the way as I had to make bread for my mum who's hurt her shoulder but got it done.

Time depending I will try to get some yoga in after tomorrows workout to make up for yesterday.

P90X Shoulders and Arms

Shoulders and Arms for me tonight and I'm really pleased with my increases in weights and reps in most places ;)

Lying Tricep extension that I failed on the 4th rep last week I got 6 reps tonight so pleased with that.

Bring it!!

P90X3 Triometrics, 22MHC Core 1 and Cardio 1

Traded in Plyo X for a triple whammy lol

P90X3 Triometrics and phew what a quad burner that one is towards the end, straight into 22MHC Core 1 to wake my core up again. I was pleasantly suprised with my reps ;)
Then as if that wasn't enough I went straight into Cardio 1 and burnt a few more calories. The run, lunge, squat sequence was especially tough after triometrics but hey what doesn't kill you makes you stronger right?

Loved it!!

Oh yeah and I modified the burpees with hands on the arms of the arm chair just being (maybe overly) cautious with my back.

P90X Chest and Back

Chest and back again and got down to my gym this week so all pull up variations were on a proper bar with chin up assist. I did try but no I've lost my chin up again - not really surprising after 6 weeks though I guess. I'll get it back soon I'm sure.

My push up numbers went up though which is awesome :) My lawnmowers and heavy pants increased and surprised me too :)

Oh yeah and I still have some doms in my legs - can you believe it!!

P90X Kenpo X

Kenpo X for me tonight and I forgot the stretches at the beginning...oh how I moaned and groaned with the DOMS from the last few days ouch, ouch and more ouchy!!!

But I really enjoyed the kenpo once we got started ;) Haven't done this one since July 15 OMG!!!

Really enjoyed it ;)

P90X Legs and Back

A few technical issues but finally got good ol' Legs and Back done today - phew!! I hope I don't regret the dumbell choices I made today as I only just made the 25 step back lunges with 2 x 7kg/15lbs.

My wall squats were poor and my single wall squats were terrible! I remember getting pretty good at them.
Considering my back recovery I was pretty pleased with my assisted pull up numbers.
My calf raise with 2 x 6kg/13lb were just burny in the last few reps ;)

I'm quite aware of my abs and obliques from Vytas yesterday too.

Good stuff!

BOD Yoga Studio Strong but Simple flow with Vytas

Couldn't face 1.5 hrs of Yoga X tonight so I tried a new one with Vytas from BOD Yoga Studio - Strong but Simple Flow.

Loved it - some strength, some flexibility and some stretch. I didn't manage all the abs but that's cool as it was a nice wake for my core now that I can get back to doing abs and twists ;).

Really nice routine with some new flowing combo's that I haven't done before. I think Vytas is really calming, easy to listen to with great cues and I felt great afterwards.

P90X Shoulders and Arms

I stupidly burnt my fingers today on a pan out of the oven and I have to say I swore a lot!!!

It made holding my dumbells a little tricky tonight but I pushed on and got Shoulders and Arms done anyway ;)

My lower back didn't like Side Tri rise very much so I did some more lying tricep extensions instead. I also subbed standing heavy curls for Crouching cohen curls too. A better sub would have kneeling curls but I was being cautious of my back.

P90X Plyometrics

P90X Plyometrics for me tonight and I loved every second of it!!

I pretty much kept up with Tony and the kids which I have to say surprised me slightly and it was such fun.

P90X Chest and Back

After much deliberation and I feel like I'm starting at square one a little I decided to go back to where it all began and that's P90X!!

So Chest and Back today and it was awesome lol

My numbers were down which was no surprise but it gives a starting point to grow from. :)

I didn't go crazy and was still cautious with my back. I used bands and Rip 60 straps for all pull up variations and power stands for most of push ups.
I still don't like the diamond push ups so after 4 of them I swapped to Military. I really don't like the dive bomber push ups either and I can't decide whether its just a difficult push up or its an odd movement??

I maybe went a little heavy with the Heavy Pants and Lawnmowers at 22.5 and 30lbs but we will see.

Looking forward to some good old Plyo X tomorrow ;)

I'm going for a traditional X week this week as I ease back in, but then maybe mix in some different cardio/kenpo/yoga days just to keep things interesting.

P90X+ Intervals X and BOD Yoga Day 5 Flow-on-the-go

I was really undecided on today's workout but in the end went with Interval X from P90X+ and loved it!! I needed a cardio high and this gives me one without too much crazy jumping.

Chased it with a slightly shortened version of Flow on the go yoga as I was short on time. But it gave me a nice cool down and stretch.

I'm going to rest my back over the weekend to get ready to start a new calendar/schedule on Monday to slowly get back what I've lost and I have the weekend to finalize what to do lol. So many choices can make it more difficult sometimes.

P90 Scuplt C

Rested yesterday even though its so frustrating. But got back to it today with P90 Scuplt C. Great little work out, went heavier than I would normally have gone for 16 reps and surprised myself by making the 16 reps most of the time :) Loved it!!

I didn't do the balance portion of Balance arch press, just went extra heavy. I subbed The rockette because I only did it on tuesday in Plyocide and this workout lacks shoulder work so I did Thumbs up flys and still had time while they did rockettes on the other leg so I did upright rows too.

This one has a little more plank / core work and it showed up what I've lost in that area today so it will be fun getting that back when I can really push. I was pretty cautious...Bird dog crunch push ups for example I managed about 3 on my feet and I was shaking all over so did the rest on my knees. Diving dolphins I did 4, took break and 4 and called it quits for those. I refuse to injure myself again.

Some X3 or X2 will have that core strength sorted for me soon over the next few weeks I'm sure lol

I'm still undecided what program/calendar/hybrid to get stuck into starting next week as I should be up to 100% and can add twists and ab work back in. I want to concentrate mainly on strength and build up my core strength back gradually and dont totally neglect cardio either lol ... I'm thinking X, X2, X3, H&C mix with maybe a sprinkling of Shaun T??

P90X2 Plyocide

I went for P90X2 Plyocide today and loved it!!

I skipped the foam rolling because I'm not sure doing it before the workout is ideal - you relax all the muscles down and then expect them to work hard? Jury's out and I'm sure Tony knows best but I found it hindered me when I did it in the past. I think its great after a workout though.

I didn't do the groiners ( I just walked each leg up and back) or full burpees because of my back, again I walked back and forth and only 3 of them to be cautious. But I'm jumping fulling, jump knee tucks etc and really enjoyed it.

I love Tony's workouts as he never fails to make me smile while working out :)

My first two consecutive days since my back so more progress yay!!! I was maybe working a little more than 75% today but boy it felt goood!

I saw the old Power 90 on bod - has anyone done it? like it? recommend it???

P90 Scuplt B & BOD Yoga Day 5 Flow on the go

Wanted to change from Sculpt A to something more challenging but as I'm still on limited days it was a hard call. I looked at various options but so many of them have a lot of core work or ab work involved I'll it till next week.

So I went with Scuplt B as it adds in a few new muscle groups to A and I didn't want to carry on with the 16 reps so I upped my weight to something more challenging (as I can feel my hard earned muscle slowly disappearing) and decided not to worry about the reps and do what I can.

I chased with 20 mins Flow on the go.

Great combo and it was awesome!! Shaky arms and my upper back muscles feel worked = love it!!! It's great to feel alive!!!!

Sode note- I had some knee pain yesterday too so as has happened before too much Shaun T cardio and my knees get upset.  It's frustrating as I enjoy it but only crazy cardio once a week for me :(
I've never had it with any others trainers cardio!!

P90X Plyo or P90X2 Plyocide (being cautious of any twisting moves) is the decision for tomorrow?? Any thoughts??

T25 Alpha Cardio and BOD Yoga Day Day 4 Flow

Loved my workout this morning, I'm feeling and moving better so I allowed myself to leave the ground this time and do some jumping. Not all of the time but some and it felt great.

I was only supposed to up my effort from 25% to 50% but my HRM shows I was clearly working a little harder than that but it felt amazing ;)

Chased it with Yoga Flow again as its a nice stretch for the legs and hip flexors. I also find the flow calming and centering while helping my flexibility get better. I also held the full plank for a short time too which I wasn't allowed to last week.

It feels so great to be getting better.
Slowly is hard but it will be worth it in the long run. ⇐ I'm reminding/telling myself that, not you guys lol
<->

P90 Scuplt A

Sculpt A again and small increments made were...
All upper body weight done standing this time, 5lb up to 7.5lb on both types of Curls, Rip 60 straps for chin ups instead of bands, did 4 full push ups the rest knees instead of all knees and the Kayak back lunge I used a 5lb weight this time but still no twist :)

I managed a cat/cow stretch tonight too so my back is moving much better!

Loved it!

Because I'm only doing every other day at the moment I thought about squeezing some cardio too but decided I might regret it and to be good and stick to the plan.

Afterwards I wanted to compare my HR data from last time to this time and was really pleased to see that it showed the slight increase in effort without me going crazy. I think I pitched it right don't you?

Physio for my back

My back is moving lots better and she's pleased with my improvement.

So I can carry on with my workouts but still ramp it up slowly so I felt this week (tuesday - tuesday) was about 25% of my normal/max so she wants me to go 50% for the coming week 1 day on 1 off, then 75% for a week 2 days on 1 off depending how I feel and then I should be around 100% but only then can I introduce twisting core and ab work back in.

I think it makes sense and I shall do my best to stick to it to get back to 100% and beyond

Focus T25 Alpha Cardio & BOD Yoga Day 4 Flow

T25 Cardio following Tanya's modification all the way through as I'm not allowed any jumping at the moment (going back to physio tomorrow so I'm hoping for the all clear ;:) and still got a nice little sweat on!

It's hard working out and feeling like you have reins on / like a dog pulling at a leash! I so wanted to do more but I know its what I must do right now so modify I did.

Then went into some nice Yoga stretches and flow with BOD Yoga Day 4 flow which was great. I did feel my upper back when I tried to lift my chest up while lying on the floor so its clearly not 100% but its getting there.

It was great to get the blood pumping feel more alive - my body is waking up after feeling as though it's been in hibernation while recovering.

P90 Sculpt A

So first real workout since my back strain and I went cautiously and carefully but loved it!!!

Only used 5lb weights and a black reebok band for pull/chin ups & tricep move. I might have lost more condition than I thought as with these 16 reps with iso holds for most of the moves the 5lbs were enough!!

I was good and sat down for all the standing upper body weight moves and used no weight and did no twist on the kayak lunges. My legs were shaking too holding all the squats and lunges! Perfect 'get back into it' workout for me.

Really please with how it went and I felt so invigorated - it was just so awesome to be moving around again ;)

BOD Yoga 21 day retreat Day 2 Stretch

I actually managed to get something done today - Yoga Stretch Day 2 from BOD 21 day Yoga retreat. I wanted to move but gently and it was perfect.

I was more aware of my back than I expected I have to be honest, so definitely slow and steady.

It felt good to do something though but OMG how much flexibility have I lost in 10 days - wow its scary how quickly your body goes backwards when you stop! I hope I can get it back and more over the next few weeks.
